Series:  #1. Rooted and Resilient: Living a vibrant, winsome, and non-anxious presence in a troubled world.

Introduction

We have options about how to live and speak into the world.

Resilience is needed to stand firm in a broken and corrupt world.

Jesus reminds us that we’re not always going to have an easy time of it!  John 15; John 10:7-10…

Paul teaches specifically about the corruption of the world and the enemy we face:  Romans 8:20-22; Ephesians 6:10-12.

The apostle Peter tells us of this enemy of our souls in I Peter 5:8-9

The secret to resilience is being rooted… it is abiding… in the power of God at work within us!

That our lives would reflect the light and love of God as we live a vibrant, winsome, and non-anxious presence into all the places that our lives have influence…

Vibrant:

Winsome:

Anxious:

The secret of resilience is being rooted in Christ… and receiving the power to live a vibrant, winsome, non-anxious presence in all the places our lives have influence.

So here’s a couple questions for reflection.

  1. Would you characterize your life right now as “abiding” in Jesus? Maybe a lot?  Maybe a little?  Maybe not at all?
  2. What are the ways that you’re currently spending time with… living with… Jesus? What are your consistent rhythms or habits of grace?  (Worship, prayer, scripture, silence or solitude, podcasts, reading?
  3. What is one thing you could do this coming week to increase your time with Jesus?

Homework for the week.

  1. Spend time in John 15… give some of your study time this week to reflecting on it.
  2. What does it mean to abide? What are some ways we do it?
  3. What does friendship with Jesus look like?
