Connecting our Sundays and our Mondays – A study in the life of Peter

HOW do you daily walk out your life in Christ?  With whom do you walk out your life in Christ?

Are we living with Self-sufficiency or Spirit-sufficiency?

As Christ followers, we Participate in the Divine Nature of God through the Power of the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirits Job is to help you connect your Sundays and your Mondays.

Consider how the Bible describes the Spirit of God:

  • He is God ( 12:22–32Acts 5:3–4).
  • He is eternal ( 1:1–2).
  • He gives us new life (John 3:3–8 8:11).
  • He is our Advocate— who strengthens us. (John 14:16, 16:7).
  • He rested on Jesus at his baptism ( 3:16) and empowered him for his ministry (Luke 4:14).
  • He understands God’s thoughts and teaches us to understand (1 Cor. 2:10)
  • He is the one who gives Christians Power, Love and a Sound mind. (2 Tim 1:7)

Jesus and the Holy Spirit -   John 14 and John 16

Conscience as a Moral Tutor                                     Holy Spirit as a tutor to Christ

Conviction comes - leads to condemnation             Conviction comes - I feel culpability

I should have done better. My power is lacking       I can’t do this apart from Christ

I need to work harder                                                Lord I am sorry – I need you

Moralistic effort                                                         O Spirit – teach me to obey you

Leads to Bondage and struggle to establish             Leads to Freedom in Christ and a

my Identity in what I do or what I have.                   solid Identity in Christ

John 21 -  What does this look like in the life of Peter?

  • Peter received the Holy Spirit.
  • Peter was made aware of the Purpose, Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit
  • Peter invited the Holy Spirit to work in his life.
  • Peter Practiced listening and responding to the Holy Spirit.

Application this week:

Be aware of your tendency to go it alone.  Be aware that Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit.

Learn a bit more about Him.   Study in your Bible the role and function of the Holy Spirit.

Invite the Holy Spirit to work in you.  Ask Him daily.  Hourly.

Listen for the Holy Spirit and put into practice what He says.
