“Fully Surrendered”

Date:  May 8, 2022

Text:  Philippians 2:19-30

Oftentimes we ask God for the Fullness of the life He has to offer yet we only surrender part of our lives to him. Then when we’re left eating a cup or flour or salt we feel disappointed and disconnected, even deceived.

Fullness in Life comes Through a Life That is Fully Surrendered to God

Why are we so resistant to surrender?

Surrender demands we give up control

When we control our lives we control the narrative. We control the story and we avoid the hard truths.

Proverbs 19:21, John 15:5

God invites us to give Him control and trust Him.

Jeremiah 29:11

Surrender creates fear

If I surrender what will happen to me?

What will I have to do?

What changes will I have to make?

What will I have to give up?

Matthew 8:23-27

Do you ever feel  like Jesus is asleep at the wheel?

Psalm 46:1-3

God is our refuge and strength in the midst of the storm!

Surrender makes us vulnerable

The Bad:

  • Vulnerability can cause us to be exposed, capable of emotional pain and open to attack.

  • Our experiences in life, our wounds, our pain can dictate our willingness to trust God.

  • When we allow our past hurts to control us we create distance between us and God and stunt our growth.

The Good:

  • Builds trust and intimacy in a relationship

  • Builds empathy and understanding

  • Increases our self-worth

  • Helps us find the people we want in our lives

  • Helps us overcome our negative emotions quicker

  • Increases our self-awareness and personal accountability

  • Opens us up for growth

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Being vulnerable while scary ultimately makes us stronger.

Surrender requires trust

Trust is earned through relationship.

Ask yourself this question: “Am I spending time with Jesus?”

Our relationship with Jesus affects our trust in Jesus.

Relationship = Trust = Surrender = Change = Fullness

When this happens we aren’t consumed by fear and doubt and control.

We walk in the freedom and fullness of surrender and we reap the fruit of this life. Joy!

Conclusion

  1. If we want the fullness of life that God has for us then we must surrender our lives completely to him.

  2. Surrender starts with trust and trust is earned through relationship. When we engage in relationship with Jesus we build the foundation for the life God designed us for and we reap the benefits of that life.
