Introduction

What’s been bothering you lately?

We can’t be rooted in Christ, and resilient, while, at the same time, being attached to the world.

Matthew 13:44-46 – The Treasure and the Pearl

Matthew 13:3-9, 18-22

Luke 21:34

If we’re going to live rooted and resilient lives we’re going to have to live with Holy Indifference!

“Holy Indifference”

Luke 14:26…

“Benevolent Detachment”

Mark 8:34-36…

Philippians 3:7-9

“He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep… to gain what he cannot lose.”

-Jim Elliot

Being rooted and resilient means holding fast to the BEST or TRANSCENDENT Things.

Matthew 6:25-34

“Aim at Heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither.”

-CS Lewis

I Peter 5:6-7

Conclusion…

There are two indispensable parts of being rooted in Christ, and detached from the world…

“Fall in Love”

-Fr. Pedro Arrupe. S.J.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. Can you identify those things in your life that are creating distance between you and Christ? What do you need to let go of… sin?  What’s outside your control?
  2. Can you sit with Christ, being still, present, and listening to His voice to guide you?
  3. Are you routinely – through your day – keeping a running dialogue with Christ and seeking to abide with him? If not, why not?  What’s one thing you could adjust in order to turn your attention to Christ?

Project for the week:

  1. Set multiple reminders through the day to turn on your thoughts to Christ… what’s stealing your joy? What needs to be released… “God, I give everyone and everything to you.”  Personal – family – career – leisure – finance – calendar.
  2. Keep a journal of those things that you’re recognizing need to be turned over to God and return to it routinely.
  3. Take some specific time each day to love God… recognizing God’s character and love for you.
  4. Reading: Resilient – Chapters 2-3.
  5. Monday: Begin 30 Days to Resilient Schedule
